Write a short summary of what happens in the digital or ambient execution or campaign.

Our idea was crafted specifically to address challenges and maximise opportunities offered by the environment we communicated in – the airport. We created an exhibition at Palma De Mallorca Airport’s arrival section. It featured eye-catching sculptures of three children (built with wood from schools destroyed in armed conflicts). The sculptures grabbed the audience’s attention, compelled them to look closer and discover the meaning behind them. To complement the sculptures, the exhibition was designed with broken walls, bullet holes and a TV display disguised as a chalkboard. Each touchpoint in the exhibition area helped educate the audience about the issue. This included information panels, flyers with an AR version of the sculptures and a website that expanded on each child’s story.

Cultural / Context information for the jury

Over 350 million children worldwide live in conflict zones today. Since 2014, armed conflicts attacked education in 87 countries leaving 1 in 3 children out of school. To help protect these children and their education, the Safe Schools Declaration was formed in 2015. However, as of May 2019, not even half of the world’s countries had committed to the declaration. [1] The exhibition was launched at Palma De Mallorca Airport ahead of and during the Third International Conference on Safe Schools held in the city. [1] UNICEF, Education Under Attack, 2018
