Write a short summary of what happens in the film
the film opens on an airline hostess, in a dreamy mood, she begins walking through passengers from Business class to Economy. On her journey, she encounters different historical characters, like Mozart, Goethe, Da Vinci, etc.. each character represents a different European country, in Economy class, the characters become groups of people with cultural stereotypes. While waltzing between them to reach the tail of the plane, she interacts with group leaders helping them with their travel. when she finally reaches the end of the plane, and turns back to close the curtains, we realize we were in her dreams all along, and the plane passengers now belong to the modern days. the encounters portray the different European countries the airlines now have direct flights to.
Cultural / Context information for the jury
the characters that represent different cultures are internationally known, the first character is Goethe (germany), we then move to Da Vinci (Italy), a clock-master (Switzerland), roman gladiators (Italy), woman with chocolate (Switzerland), Mozart (Austria), and finally to the Bavarians.
Tell the jury about the production design / art direction. You may wish to comment on choices, challenges or effects.
The main set build was in Estonia. the whole film is set on the new SV A320 plane. We got the go ahead 3 months earlier in order to make it happen. The airplane was replicated to the dot. We worked with a Finnish production designer who has done plane models, along with a team in Estonia and Finland where all the parts where shipped to Estonia for gathering. The plane main body was in a studio, on a platform, we had to make space for all the props/character/light/camera etc.. while maintaining the reality of the spaciousness of the airplane.
Props and costumes were shipped in mainly from Europe. we needed all elements to be true to the era we are portraying. example Goethe props and costume need to fit historically with what was available then. same for all other set ups and characters.
