Write a short summary of what happens in the film

electriclimefilms worked closely in collaboration with Riot Games to produce the short film, 'Nexus', on the iconic video game League of Legends (LOL). The film details three middle eastern protagonists exploring their respective paths down different alleys and roadways; having small interactions that lead to their objectives and final destination of a unique crystal shard. The contrast between worlds is seen in each differing surrounding that the heroes are immersed in — creating a deep and rich lore, similar to LOL, that only each character can understand. These brief short pieces use iconic imagery from the locations to highlight each region and show how LOL has the ability to transcend regions and locales.

Cultural / Context information for the jury

Taking a step back from a previously established narrative of video games, the film brings a fresh, modern concept that is approachable to both fans and strangers of the game alike. At the same time, incorporating traditional Arab culture through the talents and locations: from a traditional Arab Souk and old urban streets with neon lights to an abandoned building with arabesque décor.

As always, the cinematography is at the core of our efforts. We believe that a cinematic approach is the first step towards creating a visually stimulating piece, something that captures our eyes before we even know what the context is. For this purpose, we suggested shooting with an Alexa Mini, paired with a set of cinema-quality anamorphic lenses. To achieve the feeling of a blockbuster trailer we shoot handheld, jousting between impressive wides and intimate CUs.
