Write a short summary of what happens in the film
We open the protagonist, looking through tall windows. We hear a dramatic sound as an unknown vehicle zooms past on the street. Quick cuts between our hero, a horse on a chess board and our hero inside a vehicle. Then, we see a Nissan logo. The distinctive sound of our Nissan Patrol Nismo engine echoes in the dark, and suddenly we see a beast we’ve never seen before. A horse-like creature, huge and powerful, made of metal, leather and glass, with features resembling those of the car. The tempo increases. We see dynamic shots of the car zooming past the city, juxtaposed with the horse-like beast. Our hero confidently approaches the beast, interspersed with shots of him driving. Building a crescendo, the film ends with the hero taming the metal beast and the Patrol zooming past. We end on the line, “Nissan Patrol Nismo, Unleash the Beast.”
Cultural / Context information for the jury
Nissan Patrol NISMO is a high-performance and more luxurious version of the Nissan Patrol, one of the most popular cars in the GCC region. The Patrol NISMO appeals primarily to locals from the GCC countries, young achievers who are bold, self-assured and want to stand out. They’re outgoing, “out there” and live a life marked by the many thrills of many different experiences. We wanted to present the Patrol NISMO in a manner that is culturally relevant yet different and cutting-edge.
Arabian horses have played a vital role in Arabic culture, from being a means of fast transport to a possession of the nobles. They are seen as a symbol of power, luxury, speed, grace and pride. We wanted to leverage this symbolism but bring it to life through a modern, high-tech avatar, representing the luxury and power that the Patrol Nismo embodies.
Tell the jury anything relevant about the edit. Do not name the editor.
The Patrol NISMO is a high-performance, luxurious machine. It’s a car that stands out on the road and grabs instant attention. With our editing, we wanted the film to do the same for the audience. The film comes together piece by piece, shot by shot, never showing too much too quickly and always keeping the viewers engaged and excited to see a little more of the car but also waiting in anticipation for what comes next.
To connote the high-performance nature, the entire edit is done using swift cuts and dynamic, high-speed shots, covering two different visual styles. It’s a duality of sorts, between the high-tech horse and the beauty of the car itself. This builds suspense and tension, while also drawing viewers in with lush, evocative imagery. The editing makes the film a gradual coming together between our hero and his machine.
There is tension, drama, and suspense with
