Cultural/Context information for the jury.

CASE: As one of the fastest growing metropolitans in the world, Istanbul’s population has doubled in the last 20 years arriving an estimated number of 15 million. As a result of this situation while residential construction increases in an excessive way, volume of the green spaces for citizens to breathe and to socialize decrease with the same speed. Sad but true, today in some districts of Istanbul, last and only green spaces left are the cemeteries. IDEA: We used real satellite photos of Istanbul to make a series of prints and outdoors for UNDP. It can be seen clearly in the photos that in some districts last green spaces left are unfortunately the cemeteries. With the help of this thought-provoking visual contrast between the majority of buildings and minority of green, we called the citizens of Istanbul to take action and have detailed info about the measures taken by UNDP.
