Brief Explanation

Toyota - and particularly the Toyota Corolla - has a stuffy image in the Middle East. Toyota cars, vans and trucks have a strong reputation for reliability, but few would choose a Toyota Corolla as their first car straight from passing their driving test. With a new Sport offering for 2018, Toyota wanted to flip this misplaced perception on its head, showcasing the modern, stylish side to the Corolla, which was first introduced more than 50 years ago. We visualised with our TVC a rebirth of the Corolla brand - a coming-of-age of a car that has stood quietly as a symbol of trustworthy and consistency, but little else. Until now. No longer is the Corolla a car your grandfather would be proud to drive to the supermarket. Washed away is the misconception that the Corolla is anything other than one of the most stylish accessory on four wheels.

Results

The most unique aspect of this production - and what makes it stand apart from others - is that the special effects you see in the film are done in the real world; nothing is computer generated. We achieved this through intensely meticulous projection mapping onto water, and playing with the reflections and refractions to create this stunning and absorbing visual story. The shoot took place inside a custom-built water tank (32m x 22m x 0.2m) in a studio in Dubai over two days. State-of-the-art water pump mechanisms filled the tank with 10,000 gallons of circulating water. In addition, we created a purpose-built 16m-high water curtain that created micro-droplets that could be used as a screen for projection. From beginning to end, the production went off without a hitch, with the many individually functioning teams working in complete harmony to create the whole picture you now see on the screen.
