Brief Explanation

The previous show catalogues the gallery produced had widely varied in size, quality and consistency. We were tasked with developing a design solution that standardised the format, reduced costs but still allowed for flexibility and an element of the bespoke. The catalogues needed to be memorable.

The Brief

Create a series of exhibition catalogues to accompany the art exhibitions the gallery hosted throughout the year. The catalogues would be used to help promote the shows to the press, art enthusiasts and the general public. As well as be a keepsake for each exhibiting artist.

How the final design was conceived

The design solution brought to life the galleries name - The Third Line. We felt the intrigue and unknown about a 'line' could open you up to an entirely new visual experience and be brought to life in print. To make each catalogue unique we wanted to show part of each artist's work, without revealing all. A 'line' of the art is shown on the front cover, creating intrigue for the holder to engage with and discover the artist's work. A unique colour and typographic approach was used to reflect each artist. The whole catalogue was singer sewn to add a hand curated feel.

Indication of how successful the outcome was in the market

The gallery has increased footfall to their shows over the 10 month period the catalogues have been implemented. This is also true of the interest and visitor interaction at the gallery's stands at Art fairs across the globe. Each catalogue has also been coveted by the exhibiting artist, with each one writing a message of thanks to us at the agency for the catalogue.
