Brief Explanation
MSN Arabia wanted to engage with its Middle Eastern audience. We used MSN Messenger as our entry point and localized it. We created 10 free emoticons (smileys) with localized expressions and greetings that people across the region identified with. Richly animated, they were released around Ramadan & Eid – the one time everyone connects with each other. The campaign took off through email shots and web banners on chat windows and spread virally. With no media spend, we achieved 628,070 website-hits and 241,000 downloads within two months. We engaged with a mass of people who’d never considered MSN as theirs.
