Background.

In 1964, the Ford Mustang was born, triggering a whole lot of love that continues to inspire the world to this day. For almost 55 years now, the Mustang has cemented its place as an icon, on and off the streets. The fact that the 10 millionth Mustang was made (in August, 2018) just proves its popularity and that it’s in high demand. Leading up to Mustang’s 55th anniversary on April 17, 2019, we created a collection of iconic posters representing some of the most impactful cultural conversations inspired by, or have inspired, the Mustang. Our objective: To celebrate and commemorate the 10 millionth Mustang made, leading up to its 55th anniversary on April 17, 2019, by showcasing its powerful impact as a brand. A digitally led campaign and on-ground in showrooms.

Describe the creative idea.

THE PONY THAT SPOKE TO THE WORLD 1 OF 10 MILLION STORIES In 1964, the first-ever Ford Mustang rolled off the production line. 10 million Mustangs later, the inspiration continues. For 55 years, the Ford Mustang has fueled millions of stories around the world— sparking new adventures, inspiring competition, filmmakers and song writers; becoming memories, and steering the course of history. To commemorate the 10 millionth Mustang made, leading up to Mustang’s 55th anniversary (April 17, 2019), we created a collection of iconic posters representing some of the most impactful and timeless cultural conversations inspired by, or have inspired, the Mustang. An essential collection, embracing the fact that the Ford Mustang is simply adored.

Describe the strategy.

Ford Mustang is a well-established global brand and icon, with a strong following. There’s an inherent love for Mustang that can be explained historically and culturally, through movies, songs, fan clubs, exhibitions, or even every day conversations. All in all, there’s so much to celebrate. And a lot of people to celebrate with, all over the world. Given that our audience is diverse, and pretty much everywhere, we started the campaign as animated social media posts, engaging with users and leading them to a digital gallery (built on Facebook Canvas) to further explore stories and share their own. Posters were displayed in showrooms to amplify the celebration leading up to Mustang’s 55th anniversary in April.

Describe the execution.

Each poster design celebrates a moment in history or culture involving a Mustang— but we didn’t give the idea away instantly. Leading with simple and bold graphics, we left a twist in each artwork through visual storytelling for a more entertaining and rewarding experience. The exact Mustang model is present in each artwork, carefully crafted to blend in with the visual concept. Each artwork has its own personality, representing its own unique story. From 1964 to 2019, we selected the most memorable global Mustang stories to quantify its success throughout time, simply because it’s loved. So far, 25+ posters have been created, and counting. With Ford Middle East’s #MustangMondays on social media platforms, the celebration will always continue.
