Cultural/Context information for the jury.
Gebran Tueni was a Lebanese politician, the former editor and publisher of the daily paper An Nahar and the symbol of free speech and journalism. He was part of the opposition movement, which was represented in the red and white scarf he always wore that caused him his life on December 12th, 2005.
“An Nahar” has adopted the yearly ritual of exposing a huge commemorating message about Gebran, and this year marked his 13th anniversary.
The number “13” in this case, connotes the unlucky factor that it is related to this tragic accident.
Translation.
The number “13” embedded in the middle of Gebran’s name in Arabic, along with his presence wearing the scarf, conveys overall the message in the sub-headline that translates to “Commemorating 13 years of this unlucky day”.
