Brief Explanation
Typically, in-store branding is extremely cluttered and usually follows the same formula of car beauty shot in an urban environment with a headline below. We wanted to avoid that and design posters that were simple, bold and iconic. One of the specific challenges we had was finding a smart way to incorporate the sound system without resorting to an image of it in or next to the car.
The Brief
The brief was to create a campaign that celebrated the coming together of two iconic brands. The Volkswagen Beetle and Fender sound system that’s installed in the new Beetle.
How the final design was conceived
The final design came about after realising that the Fender system is the hallmark of great music and it delivers that music with unparalleled clarity. The Beetle also has a well deserved reputation of it’s own, so we chose to combine great music with words that can also be associated with the Beetle. We made the car the hero and placed famous lyrics from different genres above it. The Beetle completes the lyric, which illustrates that these two brands were quite simply made for each other.
Indication of how successful the outcome was in the market
The posters proved so popular we extended the print run so that prospective customers could also take home one or more of the iconic series.
Volkswagen, one of the top car manufacturers in the world, is well known as the people’s car. This campaign targeted Beetle lovers who also have an appreciation for incredible sound systems in their cars.
