Brief Explanation
Business cards generally tend to take direction from whatever the existing stationery collateral. With an intelligent client on our side, we knew we had a window of hope to present something other than the automatic logo in the corner, telephone numbers on the left approach so prevalent in the region. Rather than lament the lack of appreciation or opportunity for conceptual design, we approached this job like we would any other. We looked for an idea.
The Brief
Our brief from client was to design business cards for the company. PSG is a leading sports marketing company covering sporting events, sponsorship and athlete representation in Europe and the Middle East. Among the many sports personalities and speakers under management include Sean Fitzpatrick and adventurer Adrian Hayes. While not their employment policy, the greater majority of individuals contracted at PSG have strong sporting backgrounds.
How the final design was conceived
Of all the bits and squiggles strewn across our scribble pads, the instantly tingly one, was that of sport trading cards. We simply loved the concept of creating collectible trading cards for Professional Sports Group. The fit was perfect. The idea gave us an opportunity to present PSG in a design language that was complimentary to what it is they do as an international business. Star athletes and sporting professionals need "star" specialist sport marketers and managers. While the design of each card is intentionally different, the ethos governing them is singular: Conformity to the concept of trading cards.
Indication of how successful the outcome was in the market
I am unaware of a measurement to gauge the success of business cards in the market. If happiness and envy is an acceptable measurement, then our cards are very, very successful because our clients love them and their friends in turn are super envious. (We have been told this.)
