Brief Explanation
With so many lectures and masterclass workshops to pick and choose from at the Festival, competition was always tough to fill up venues. We couldn't have someone as famous as Tony Parsons have a half filled lecture hall! The Tony Parsons masterclass was to be all about the struggles of being a writer and how to get published. The challenge was to highlight Tony Parsons amongst many other star authors and contributors at the Festival, and to ensure a healthy attendance at his masterclass.
The Brief
When Tony Parsons the 2000 UK Book of the Year winner was confirmed as a masterclass contributor at the Emirates Literature Festival 2011, we were charged to bring this big scoop to the attention of festival attendees and encourage individuals to purchase tickets to attend his masterclass.
How the final design was conceived
The crumpled ball of paper is the ubiquitous trademark of the frustrated writer spurned by inspiration. The only remaining evidence of a long night spent with a page waiting for words. It is a sign of both pain and pleasure. The crumpled paper hit the raw nerve of the writer. It understood the truth of being a writer and the process of writing. Certain that everyone at the Festival was au fait with the tribulations of the hapless writer, the crumpled leaflet became our advertising medium - strewn in lecture halls and handed out at the festival.
Indication of how successful the outcome was in the market
The Tony Parsons masterclass, scheduled for Friday 11th March 2011 was completely sold out. This fact can currently be verified on the following online address:
