Brief Explanation
Visa was an official sponsor of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Unfortunately, no Middle Eastern team qualified. So, in an effort to keep momentum going throughout the MENA region, the 'Visa adopt-a-fan' Facebook application was created, where 'fan orphans' could be adopted by qualifying World Cup teams.
Within the application, fans learned what it meant to be a fan of each country, then received adoption papers, a new fan name, and a colorful flag overlay to display on their Facebook profile.
Many fans used the application multiple times, changing allegiances and profile pictures before each World Cup game.
