Brief Explanation

Our client wanted us to design and conceptualize the 2015 limited-edition desktop calendar (500 numbers), based on the concept of ‘fresh from the oven’, possibly distinct and appetizingly and innovative in design and crafting. Essentially, serving as an interesting reminder of MOB’s delectable and tasty range of oven-fresh bread!

The Brief

The primary challenge was to conceive a design idea for a desktop calendar that would reflect appetizing freshness and be seen as an innovative work of art; which would stay on the desktop or work station with the consumers for an entire year. The key objective was to bring together the virtues of freshness straight from the oven.

How the final design was conceived

After a few internal brainstorming sessions and deliberating on various design ideas, we asked us a vital question: How about a design that looks like the product itself? That was it – A bread loaf, of 14 slices with 12 for the months and 2 slices for front and back of the loaf.

Indication of how successful the outcome was in the market

An indicator of success in the market: The 500 Limited Edition Desktop Calendars were given to a select list of key consumers across the Sultanate and the result was simply beyond expectations. Followed by positive reviews from all media and in less than a week the ‘bread-calendar’, became the talk of the town – raising Modern Oman Bakery’s brand recall and awareness to several notches up, to a never-before high!

Modern Oman Bakery joined the Switz group in 1982. It has thrived as a business and now has about fifty bakery shops across Oman. Each shop sells fresh Arabic bread, savouries, sandwiches and cakes supported by local production and a central production facility that opened in 1990. Modern Oman Bakery is the largest manufacturer of a wide variety of fresh bread.
