Brief Explanation

The bird and its chicks, tend to be muted because of the desert surroundings, resulting in much of the communication being predominantly earth tone sand colours and browns, our key objective was to introduce vibrance and freshness into our design to rejuvenate already strong relationships with the conservation efforts and also to attract a younger audience.

The Brief

The brief from the International Fund for Houbara Conservation was to create a promotional package that included a diary, calendar, notebook and pen. The design was to refresh the understanding of conserving the Houbara and at the same time making it relevant to a newer and younger generation?

How the final design was conceived

Our design rationale was to capture the energy and vibrance of the Houbara’s spirit rather than portraying a realist presentation of the bird and its surroundings. We did this by introducing splashes of colour combined with silhouettes of the birds to create arresting imagery in which you’d find something new everytime you looked at it. The use of white in the background creates a nice overall freshness and allows the colors to pop off the background. The Typography and information are laid out in a clean and simple fashion to counter balance the intricacy of the visuals.

Indication of how successful the outcome was in the market

This promotional package was presently surprising to those who received it and was a good change of gear from any previous communication that had been done by the IFHC. It symbolized renewed energy and fresh thinking from the IFHC for the year ahead and invited others to share in that vision. It has rejuvenated the desire by government and investors to make funds available to continue the conservation of this endangered bird.

The International Fund for Houbara Conservation (IFHC) is a government funded body established to coordinate the work of the Government of Abu Dhabi to preserve and restore wild populations of the endangered Houbara bustard species. IFHC oversees a global network of conservation initiatives aimed at restoring Houbara bustard numbers worldwide. It does this through conducting ecological research into the habitat and behaviour of Houbara, undertaking captive-breeding and release programmes, and ensuring that the ancient practice of falconry is preserved as part of Arabian heritage.
