Brief Explanation
Our key objective was to notify the artists that Bass Camp was taking place and create a sense of excitement around the workshop. Secondly, we needed to encourage the public to support their local music scene by attending the showcase events spread across the city. One of the biggest challenges arose from our target audience. The musicians that we were communicating too represented the top spectrum of an alternative scene that has an aversion to “corporate gimmicks” and a distinct aesthetic.
The Brief
Red Bull Music Academy Bass Camp Beirut is a unique opportunity for musicians from across the Arab world to come together, collaborate and work with professional recording equipment and audio engineers. We were tasked with creating an engaging concept through which Red Bull could communicate the aims of the Music Academy. Additionally, we created videos, banners and posters to drive the public to attend the several events that capped off the conference.
How the final design was conceived
Because the event was centered on the advancement and creation of new sounds by local musicians, we wanted to let the music speak. Riding on the headline “Let-The-Music-Do-the-Talking,” our deliverables were inspired by different elements of sound. Our welcome pack was designed based on a record sleeve and contained a rebranded 45, guide printed as a classic fan ‘zine and themed stickers. To promote the concerts we based our posters on sound-waves and EQ bars. Additionally, the posters contained small speakers that were activated upon touch to deliver all the necessary information via song, letting “the music do the talking.”
Indication of how successful the outcome was in the market
Bass Camp was a hit with both the artist that took part and the public who attended the showcase. Attendance was high across the various two-days of showcase events and engagement with both the fanzine/interactive posters created a positive stir in the local music scene. The welcome pack was well received by the musicians, the stickers are still commonly scene on the laptops and gear of local bands when performing.
