The Brief

The Jordan Festival was a cultural initiative held in the summer of 2010 featuring a multitude of local and international talents that showcased a number of musical, cultural and theatrical performances. For its inaugural year, the festival’s theme was a tribute to the legendary Egyptian songstress Um Kathoum. Held at the Citadel, a fascinating cultural site in the heart to Amman the festival was organized in collaboration with Beiteddine Festivals; an independent non-profit organization with more than 25 years of successful experience in cultural events.

How the final design was conceived

The JF logo was a reflection of the Citadel’s heritage as an extraordinary cultural landmark. The colorful semi-circular elements in the logo represent the variety of Jordanian, Arab and international artists that participated. The circles introduced a lively and festive feel while maintaining the Arabian identity of the festival and the type used was inspired by traditional Arabic calligraphy to reflect the festival’s spirit.

Indication of how successful the outcome was in the market

There was an outpour of support and positive feedback from festival-goers and performers on both the festival’s website and Facebook fan page in addition to wide media exposure. Due to the festival’s overall success both locally and on an international level, the Jordan Festival will be held again in 2011 and preparations are underway for new artwork with the client’s request to maintain similar elements of the 2010 logo.
